Well Told.

The mission to transform Benton Harbor as a place of hope ultimately inspired the vision of Harbor Shores. Our new resort community will capture the market’s demand for Lake Michigan resort living and use that demand as an economic enabler for the transformation of the impacted areas.

While there are many aspects to the authorship of Harbor Shores’ guiding purpose, it is the first three chapters that most eloquently tell our story.

Our People.

At Harbor Shores, our founding mission is to create a world-class resort community that will help generate economic growth, promote civic development and, above all, create individual opportunities through partnerships.

Our Land.

The true green of Harbor Shores is not our  elegant fairways, but rather the enormous environmental reclamation of our land. Today, with more than $8 million spent in debris removal, soil remediation and demolition, Harbor Shores has created acres of fresh, useable and living green space for the entire community to enjoy. But this is just the beginning. Having reclaimed our land, it is our ongoing mission to preserve our community’s natural resource and to join with others to protect our area’s natural beauty for future generations.

A History of Innovations.

Founded in the early 1800s, the twin cities of Benton Harbor and St. Joseph seemed destined to share more than the view across the St. Joseph River.

From establishing the first Farmers Market in 1863 to the creation of the famed Silver Beach Amusement Park in 1871 to the founding of Whirlpool Corporation in 1911, the people of Benton Harbor and St. Joseph are quite comfortable with creating innovative, big ideas.

It is little wonder then, that as the world changed and a new opportunity for hope appeared, these wondrous people, communities, organizations and corporations came together to create the vision that is now becoming reality in Harbor Shores.

"This [property] is really a huge enabler to drive community transformation and economic growth - not only in Benton Harbor but throughout Southwestern Michigan."

– Jack Nicklaus
