Whirlpool Foundation
More than half a century ago, Whirlpool Corporation cofounders Louis and Frederick Upton established Whirlpool Foundation and made a commitment – a promise – to reinvest in the community. Their intent was to provide financial and leadership support for nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities where Whirlpool Corporation operated. Today, Whirlpool Foundation addresses community issues with a global approach that better leverages resources and broadens the impact of change and improvement. Since its founding, hundreds of organizations and programs have benefited from more than $128 million in grants.
Harbor Shores Community Redevelopment
Harbor Shores Community Redevelopment, Inc. (HSCRI) is a non-profit entity formed to serve as a master developer for the Harbor Shores project. As a corporation, HSCRI is owned by three non-profit organizations that have established relationships and project successes within our communities: Whirlpool Foundation, the Alliance for World-Class Communities and Cornerstone Alliance. HSCRI is managed by the Board of Trustees, which includes representatives of this ownership group.
The Alliance for World-Class Communities
The Alliance for World-Class Communities is a coordinating and strategic organization to guide member organizations on large, multi-disciplinary projects. The Alliance serves as a strategic goal-setting organization to provide financial and communications services, fundraising support, human resources functions and technical support to the Community Partnership for Lifelong Learning, Cornerstone Alliance and Council for World-Class Communities plus as-needed capacity development to the Citizens for Progressive Change. The ultimate goal is to work together to create lasting change for the region.
Citizen for Progressive Change
The mission of the Citizen for Progressive Change is to implement the recommendations of Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm’s Benton Harbor Task Force. Implementation of these recommendations will occur through a process of advocacy, education and collaboration. The vision is to engage citizens in resolving economic, social and human development issues with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life for Benton Harbor residents.
Community Partnership for Lifelong Learning
The mission of the Community Partnership for Lifelong Learning (CPLL) is to work collaboratively to improve community systems that have an impact on learning and workforce competitiveness. The CPLL believes that all people are lifelong learners. They envision a vibrant community of learners at every age who will demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for success in school, in the workplace and in life.
Cornerstone Alliance
The mission of Cornerstone Alliance is to generate economic growth and promote civic development in the community comprised of the cities of Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, the charter townships of Benton, St. Joseph, Lincoln and Royalton. Cornerstone Alliance is an investor driven organization committed to improving the economic wealth of our community. The vision of the organization is to create individual opportunity in a world-class community through partnerships.
Council for World-Class Communities
The Council for World-Class Communities (CWCC) mission is to create an environment where Southwest Michigan residents view differences among themselves as strengths that open opportunities for everyone to grow and participate fully, rather than seeing differences as threats or problems. The CWCC vision is “to create a set of interdependent, world-class communities where diversity and inclusion are the foundation and no one is left behind.”
