Meet Our Instructors

Joshua R. Doxtator, PGA

Josh is a longtime golf instructor, with an extensive background in player development. He has been honored by both the PGA of America and US Kids Golf for his leadership in player development, and he was ranked #2 “Best Instructors of the Valley” in the state of Arizona by an independent magazine poll in 2013. Josh has been teaching his entire life, starting with clinics he ran for neighborhood kids on his hometown street when he was a Junior himself! Teaching professionally since 2005, Josh has conducted over 7,000 lessons, clinics, and classes to players of all skill levels, including Tour players and NCAA Division 1 recruits. Using both V1 and JC Golf motion analysis software, Josh employs specific focus and action to attain results quickly.

Josh’s Teaching Philosophy: “Once you can understand the student’s learning style and develop a game plan that aligns with their abilities, the results can be phenomenal. Using simple verbiage and sequences, we can build a swing that fits the student, not someone else’s version of it. Attaining a successful swing sequence is easier than most believe, if steps are made through simple focus and reaction. Connection is the key to any golf swing, and using the student’s core competencies, we can build something that becomes difficult to lose or forget.”

Here’s Josh on what he likes best about teaching: “I am blessed to be able to watch people of all skill levels tap into their true talent. Assisting in bringing that out is what I enjoy the most, and seeing the view of contentment and surprise on their faces when they reach new skill levels. Taking what is perceived as ‘broken’ or ‘defeated’ and turning it into success while building a bridge to new potential is what drives me.”

Gabe Beronja, PGA

Gabe has been teaching golf since 1999 when he started with the First Tee of Battle Creek, instructing juniors. Since then he has become a PGA member and has been teaching professionally since 2009. He has developed into an excellent instructor conducting many ladies’ clinics and junior golf programs. He has developed juniors into NCAA Division 1 players, and mini tour professionals and lifelong golfers. Using V1 software and Trackman technologies, Gabe strives to keep the golf swing simple and communicate in a manner that everyone can understand.

Gabe’s Philosophy: “My philosophy on teaching would be to keep the golf swing as simple as possible for everyone to enjoy. I try to speak in a manner that the student will understand and know that everyone understands and learns in a different way, so I work to find the best way for the student to learn the game of golf. I feel that the golf swing can be a simple as turning back and turning through or as complex as anyone would like to make it. I try to teach so that we can find a common ground for your golf swing and work to make the student the best player they are willing to become.”

Here’s Gabe on what he likes best about teaching: “My favorite part of teaching golf is seeing the look in the eyes of the student when they hit that first pure shot. Once they have achieved that I feel that most people are hooked on the game and look to become the best they can be. I also enjoy helping people get better at a game that I love and that they can play and love for a lifetime.”

Ross Smith, PGA

For the past 33 years I have been a member of the PGA of America and golf instruction is my passion. I have been very fortunate to have worked with Jim Flick Nicklaus Golf Academy lead instructor, Dr. Jim Suttie, Rick Smith, EA Tishler and many other top teachers in the country. No one has all the answers but over the years I have gained a lot of knowledge of the golf swing. Taking little bits from each of these teachers and trial and error has brought me where I am today. Culminating with me being named the Indiana Section Teacher of the Year in 1999.

I continue to learn and develop ideas to help improve my students. I am not a method teacher such as Stack & Tilt, Golf Machine, One Plane or Two Plane. All of these methods have Pros & Cons.  Each student brings their own abilities and I try to find the pieces that fit the student I’m working with. I am a firm believer in basics such as Grip, Stance & Set up but I don’t think you can play trying to hit positions. If I need to be put into a single category, I am a ball flight instructor. I am a firm believer 90% of golfers need to draw the ball for distance. With the use of V1 Video & Trackman we can develop a model for your success.

Jackson Davison, PGA Associate

Jackson is currently an Associate in Level one of the PGA Golf Management Program. After years of competitive golf in both junior and professional level play across the nation, Jackson has turned his focus on becoming a Class A, PGA Professional. With 5 years of instructional experience, Jackson can bring a fun, focused and youthful vision to the game of golf. With goals of becoming a recognized instructor in the state of Michigan, Jackson is finding innovative ways to make the game easier. Using both TrackMan Technology and V1 Golf Analysis software, Jackson helps his students get more of a visual representation of the changes he is presenting.

Jackson’s Teaching Philosophy: “Finding a way to make a repeatable golf swing in order to produce the best results. Being able to simplify each movement through visual, statistical, and verbal instruction. Identifying weaknesses and turning them into strengths. Learning to make a swing that can be repeated under any circumstance. Lastly, discovering the most efficient way to produce scores and save shots on the golf course.”

Here’s Jackson on what he likes best about teaching: “Being able to introduce my own take on how to become a better golfer. Helping introduce a better perspective of golf and simplifying it down to the basics in order to save shots. I love being able to grow the game due to creating easier ways to play it. I am a big fan of junior instruction. I see myself in a lot of the students and realize their dreams of taking it to the next level. Being the best golfer, they can be.”
