Harbor Shores Real Estate Sales Flourish

09/09/2010

Southwest Michigan Development Bucks Recent National Sales Trend; Plans to Open Next Phase Ahead of Schedule

BENTON HARBOR, Mich., Sept. 9, 2010 – While the Commerce Department recently reported that national new home sales sank 12.4 percent in July 2010, Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich., continues to show positive signs of growth as the resort community today reports that 50 percent of its current available real estate inventory has been sold in 2010 (28 of 56 home sites), including a recent surge of sales activity of 17 home sites from June through August 2010.

As a result of the demand for home sites at Harbor Shores, the property’s developers now plan to open Phase II of their cottage home neighborhood six months ahead of schedule.

"We are extremely pleased with the recent real estate sales success,” said Mark Hesemann, Harbor Shores managing director. "Harbor Shores offers a fantastic lifestyle for both primary and second home owners alike, and it is that lifestyle that customers are investing in. We look forward to opening Phase II early.”

The success at Harbor Shores is welcome news in the real estate market. The announcement of high demand for home sites comes on the heels of the Harbor Shores Champions for Change golf challenge played Aug. 10, at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores, an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and the centerpiece of the community. The grand opening event paired course designer Jack Nicklaus alongside golf legends Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Johnny Miller in a charity skins match that raised $1 million for the Boys and Girls Club and The First Tee of Benton Harbor.

The Golf Club at Harbor Shores will host the 2012 and 2014 Senior PGA Championship, which will be presented by KitchenAid.

Harbor Shores will eventually feature nearly 800 residential units, commercial space, marinas, a boutique hotel and spa as well as a wide array of resort and community amenities. The community’s next real estate release is scheduled for the end of September, a neighborhood of condominiums and townhomes with a 65-slip deep-water marina and commercial retail space. The community represents the last and largest stretch of developable land along the shores of Lake Michigan.
